Windows 98 Second Edition Setup
- Engage your Internet Connection Wizard on your desktop by double-clicking on the icon. If it is not on your desktop, open Internet Explorer and go to Tools, then Internet Options. Bring the tab labeled Connections to the front, and click the Setup button located on that screen.
- Select the option for manual connection with an Internet Service Provider--usually the third choice; "I want to set up my Internet connection manually, or I want to connect through a local area network (LAN)." Click Next.
- Choose Connect using phone line. Click Next.
- Choose Next at modem choice if you are offered this choice (your modem should show up there).
- Uncheck Dial using area code and enter the telephone number provided to you by Downeast.Net.
- Enter your username and password. Click Next.
- Name your connect downeastnet Click Next.
- Choose Yes on Internet Mail Account (this will set up Outlook or Outlook Express for you). Choose Create a new Internet mail account, choose Next. Enter the name you wish to display, click Next. Enter your e-mail address (all lowercase, no spaces). Choose Next. Type of mail server is POP3. Incoming mail server is downeast.net and outgoing mail server is downeast.net. Click Next.
- Choose No on news server (you can always add it later).
- Choose No on Internet directory.
- At the screen named Completing the Internet Connection Wizard, if you have it, UNCHECK the box that says "To connect to the Internet immediately, select this box and then click Finish." Then click Finish.
- Double-click on your browser to login and begin enjoying the Internet
- At the end of your session online, be sure to log out by double-clicking on the two small computers in the lower right tray on your desktop, and choose Disconnect.
