Windows 95/98 Setup

  1. Start your Internet Connection Wizard by clicking on it on the desktop of your computer. If it is not on your desktop, open Internet Explorer and go to Tools, the Internet Options. Bring the tab labelled Connections to the front, and click the Setup button located on that screen.
  2. Selection the option for connecting with an Internet Service Provider. Click Next.
  3. Choose connect using phone line. Click Next.
  4. Choose Next at modem choice (if you have that choice).
  5. Choose create a new dialup connection. Click Next.
  6. Uncheck dial using area code and enter this telephone number provided to you by Downeast.Net for your modem to dial: 1-500-699-1010. Click Next.
  7. Enter your dialup username@downeast.net and password for your Downeast.Net account
  8. Choose No on Advanced Settings. Click Next.
  9. Be sure the dot is in Server-Assigned IP address and Server-Assigned Domain Name Servers. Choose Next.
  10. Name your connection DowneastNet. Click Next.
  11. Choose Yes on Internet Mail Account (this will set up Outlook Express for you, normally). Choose Create a new Internal mail account. Choose Next. Enter the name you wish to display. Choose Next. Enter your e-mail address (all lower case letters and no spaces.). Choose Next. Type of mail server is POP3. Incoming mail server is downeast.net and outgoing mail server is downeast.net. Fill those fields and choose Next.
  12. Choose No on news server (you can always add it later).
  13. Choose No on Internet directory.
  14. Choose Finish to complete the wizard and begin your Internet adventure!
  15. At the end of your online session, be sure yo logout and free up your telephone line by choosing Yes if your computer asks you if you wish to disconnect, or be double-clicking on the two tiny computers in the lower right-hand tray on your desktop, and choosing Disconnect.
