Mac OSX Setup
This information adapted from the online AppleCare Knowledge Base.
A modem is required. If your computer does not have a built-in modem, then select your external modem in Step 4. Follow these steps to connect:
- Gather this information from Downeast.Net:
- User name and password
- Dial-up number
- Domain Name System (DNS) server addresses: 198.6.1.146 and 198.6.1.142
- Whether you should choose to configure IP information via PPP or manually
- Choose System Preferences from the Apple Menu.
- Choose Network from the View menu
- Choose Internal Modem from the Show pop-up menu (the "Configure" pop-up menu prior to Mac OSX 10.1).
- Click the PPP tab
- Type the information that you gathered in Step 1 in the the corresponding fields. Your user name goes in the Account Name field. If you want the other users of this computer to use the same connection method, select the checkbox for "Save password."
- Click the TCP/IP tab.
- Choose either PPP or Manually from the Configure pop-up menu, as instructed by Downeast.Net. If configuring manually, type the IP address in the corresponding field.
- Type the DNS addresses in the corresponding field.
- Click Apply Now
- Open Internet Connect, located in the Applications folder.
- Be sure the Configuration pop-up menu is set to your modem.
- Click the Connect button.
- Open a Web browser or other TCP/IP application to verify your connection to the Internet.
